Introdução ao cálculo variacional e aplicações

O presente trabalho trata da teoria de máximos e mínimos em espaços de funções, que é o objeto de estudo do Cálculo Variacional. Uma das ferramentas para atacar tais problemas é por meio da Equação de Euler-Lagrange. Existe uma variedade de problemas, mas neste trabalho trataremos de problemas sem restrições. Como aplicação das equações de Euler-Lagrange serão apresentados dois problemas clássicos desta teoria e uma abordagem das curvas geodésicas sob o ponto de vista do cálculo das variações.

The present work deals with the theory of maxima and minima in spaces of functions, which is the object of study of Variational Calculus. One of the tools to tackle such problems is through the Euler-Lagrange equation. There are a variety of problems, but in this work we will deal with problems without restrictions. As an application of the Euler-Lagrange equations we will present two classical problems of this theory and an approach of the geodesic curves from the point of view of the calculation of the variations.
