"Mãos que acolhem" as irmãs hospitaleiras da Imaculada Conceição e a educação católica em Penedo - AL (1913-1950)

 Por meio da presente pesquisa, busco entender o porquê de uma escola com mais de um século de sua fundação ter força e ocupar um lugar relevante no cenário educacional da cidade de Penedo-AL. O interesse surgiu da necessidade de produzir um conhecimento acerca do que representou a fundação do Colégio Imaculada Conceição para a sociedade penedense do início do século XX, quais eram os objetivos, os interesses daqueles que fundaram a instituição e a educação católica, oferecida especificamente para meninas. O registro realizado é um recorte com início em 1913, estendendo-se aos anos de 1950, quando a instituição deixou de ofertar a educação apenas para meninas. Para atingir os objetivos propostos, adotei a seguinte sistemática: pesquisar e registrar as entrevistas de ex-alunas, registradas nos documentos que obtive acesso nos arquivos que preservam a história e a memória da cidade na biblioteca municipal e na Fundação Casa do Penedo, discursos impressos, fotografias, panfletos, juramentos, convites, jornais, além do arquivo interno da instituição escolar. Sendo assim, este artigo é centrado na metodologia da História, por meio do uso de documentos diversos, tais como: legislação, fotografias, livros, jornais, revistas, além do uso da história oral. Do ponto de vista teórico, foram consultados estudos desenvolvidos por Azzi (2005), Benito (2017), Costa (2003), Gatti (2002), Le Goff (2011), Manoel (2008), Matos e Senna (2011), Santana (2016), Méro (1974; 1991), entre outros. Diante do que essa pesquisa me possibilitou, foi possível perceber a relevância do Colégio Imaculada Conceição para a sociedade penedense do início do século XX, constatando que, para as famílias dessa cidade, fundar um colégio capaz de oferecer às suas filhas uma educação alicerçada nos princípios morais, educativos, cívicos e religiosos significava ir além do ensino e aprendizagem, em se tratando da educação feminina, pois a preocupação não era somente com a formação, mas como se daria a mesma e que resultados traria.   

Through this research, I want to understand why does a school with more than a century of foundation has such strength and occupy a relevant place in the educational scenario of Penedo-AL. The interest came from the necessity to produce knowledge about what did the founding of the Immaculate Conception School represent for Penedo´s society from the early 20th century, what were the aims, the interests of those who have founded the institution and the Catholic education offered specifically for girls. The register made is a clipping with its beginning in 1913, extending to the 1950s, when the institution stopped offering education only for girls. To achieve the proposed objectives, I adopted the following system: research and register the interviews of old students according to the documents I obtained in the archives that preserve the history and memory of the city in the municipal library and the Casa do Penedo Foundation, where I found printed speeches, photographs, pamphlets, oaths, invitations, newspapers, as well as the school's internal archive. Thus, this article is centered on the methodology of History, through the use of diverse documents, such as: legislation, photographs, books, newspapers, magazines, besides the use of oral history. From a theoretical point of view, studies developed by Azzi (2005), Benito (2017), Costa (2003), Gatti (2002), Le Goff (2011), Manoel (2008), Matos and Senna (2011), Santana  (2016), Méro (1974; 1991), among others were consulted. Given what this research has enabled me, it was possible to realize the relevance of the Immaculate Conception School for   Penedo society from the early 20th century, realizing that for the families of this city, founding a college capable of offering their daughters an education founded on the principles moral, educative, civic and religious meant going beyond teaching and learning, in the case of female education, because their concern was not the formation itself, but how it would work and what results it would bring.
