Health-related physical fitness and physical activity seem to be
associated with motor coordination in children of pre-pubertal age, pre-pubertal, so it
is necessary to check which variables can have a positive or negative influence on
the coordination capacities of these individuals. The aim of the present study was to
verify whether there is an effect of biological maturation on the performance of
prepubertal girls in KTK and to observe whether this effect is mediated by any
anthropometric variable. The study included 60 female children aged between 8.00
and 8.99 years, enrolled in four schools in the city of Arapiraca - AL, Brazil. The
anthropometric variables measured were body mass, height, waist circumference and body mass index (BMI). The maturational state was evaluated using the
predicted mature stature (PMS) method, created by Khamis-Roche in 1994. The
Körperkoordinationstest Für Kinder (KTK) was the test used to check children's motor
coordination. For the analysis, descriptive statistics of central tendency and
dispersion were performed. Subsequently, a partial correlation test, controlled by
chronological age, between anthropometric variables (body mass, height, BMI, waist
circumference), the z-score of maturation and the results obtained in each of the KTK
tests was performed. Finally, a mediation analysis was carried out to verify if there
was any anthropometric variable mediation. The level of significance was set at p
<0.05. Biological maturation has an influence on the motor coordination of
individuals, correlating inversely with the children's performance in KTK tests, but this
effect is not mediated by any anthropometric variable.
