usando adsorvente Porapak Q (80/100 mesh, 0,05 g; Supelco).
The service provided
by pollinators in agriculture is essential, especially for fruit species. Hancornia speciosa (mangabeira) is a
species with great economic potential, however it is still exploited in an
extractive manner and has a deficient natural pollination, due to a low
presence of pollinators, mainly insects of the Sphingidae family. Studies aimed
at understanding the functions of floral aromas of plant species that use this
family as pollinators are essential. In this way it will be possible to establish
strategies for the rational cultivation of mangabeira outside its natural
habitat. Thus, the present work aimed to identify the volatile organic
compounds of the flowers of mangabeira (Hancornia
speciosa GOMES) and Jasmine-mango (Plumeria
spp.), species pollinated by sphindid insects. The volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) emitted by the flowers of the mangaba and jasmine-mango plants were
collected directly from the plant through the dynamic headspace system, using
Porapak Q adsorbent (80/100 mesh, 0.05 g; Supelco). Air was injected into the
plastic bag before passing through an activated carbon filter at a flow rate of
400 mL / min. and tubes with Porapak Q were used at the top of the bag and the
air was collected at a flow rate of 350 mL / min. for each flower. The
collection was carried out with a duration of twelve hours starting at 17h00,
since this time was marked by the release of a strong sweetish odor, which
remains until the following day. Previously, the glass tubes were washed with
hexane and heated in greenhouses at 100 ° C for 60 min, for the
"activation" of the adsorbent. At the end of the aerations, the
desorption of the volatiles in the Porapak Q was carried out by passing 500 µL
hexane grade HPLC and stored in “vials”. The identification of the compounds
was done by means of gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. Were
identified 64 volatile organic compounds in the floral odor of the species
studied, of these, there was similarity of 10 compounds between the two plant
species, showing that they are likely responsible for attracting pollinators,
with emphasis on linalool. Despite having been detected only in mangabeira,
compounds such as a-farnesene, b-karyophylene and methyl salicylate have a chance of having action on
pollinators, playing an important role in the attractiveness of insects.
