e alunos, possibilitando respaldo e resultados legitimamente relevantes no
tema.
The mechanized procedures rooted in
the process of teaching and learning mathematics bring with them the thought
that mathematics is something complicated to understand. In the search for
collaborative results in Mathematics Education and considering the Mathematics
Teaching Laboratory (LEM) composed of methodologies associated with practical
teaching and learning processes, the research presented here aimed to
investigate the use of instruments of the mathematics teaching laboratory in
the pedagogical practice of the mathematics teacher. The studies that support
this work show that activities planned from concrete and manipulable
instruments, characteristic of a mathematics teaching laboratory, are important
pedagogical tools to improve the teaching and learning framework of
mathematics. For the development of the research it was necessary to carry out
a qualitative field research. According to Denzin and Lincoln (2006),
qualitative research involves an interpretive approach to the world, which
means that its researchers study things in their natural settings, trying to
understand phenomena in terms of the meanings people give to them. Having as
subjects of this research: teachers and students, enabling support and results
that are legitimately relevant to the theme. For data collection, two
questionnaires were used, one intended for research with teachers (Appendix A)
consisting of five objective and discursive questions. The questionnaire
(Appendix B) for teachers consists of eight items, arranged in an objective and
discursive way. Thus, investigating both the attitudes and impressions of both
teachers and students. As theoretical contributions we rely on Ewbank (1971) on
the mathematics laboratory; Bezerra (1962) with the use of manipulable
materials, Lorenzato (2006) on the objections and counterarguments of the use
of LEM. The results show that the students who are the subjects of this
research have conceived that the use of laboratory instruments favors the
teaching and learning process of mathematics in a pleasant, attractive way and
with support to give social meaning to the mathematical contents. The work also
showed the main difficulties faced by teachers regarding the use of laboratory
instruments, from the lack of these instruments, time for planning and training
for their use.
