The
city stands as a reflection and protection of the dominant ideas and values.
Thus, the city is also constituted as an environment that mitigates
subjectivities, rejecting sexualities and gender identities that deviate from
the established sexual norm. This text aims to discuss LGBTQIAP+ territoriality
as an element of identity related to sexual minorities within urban spaces. In
Brazil we have a highly unfavorable scenario, we remain at the top of the
ranking of violence against the LGBTQIAP+ population. According to data from the
Trans Murder Monitoring the country for the 12th consecutive year is the most
violent for this population. According to ANTRA (National Association of
Transvestites and Transsexuals) life expectancy for transsexuals and
transvestites in Brazil is 35 years, less than half the life of cisgender
people. Faced with this scenario of violence and subtraction of the right to
urban life, we will analyze the relationship of the LGBTQIAP+ population, with
a specific cut of transsexual people and transvestites, with the urban space in
the city of Arapiraca. The objective of the research is to question the
existence of spaces alluding to the closet in the experiences of using the city
by this community. We will begin the construction of this panorama with the
history of the LGBTQIAP+ movement, going through the relationship of the urban
space with the non-heteronormative population, concluding with the
investigation and mapping of the urban spaces most occupied by transsexuals and
transvestites in Arapiraca.
