O
A maior
Aliado a
rotuladas com a presença ou ausência de nódulos pulmonares por especialistas;
Lung cancer is the type of cancer
that causes the most deaths in the world and its main manifestation occurs due
to the appearance of lesions in the lung tissue. Given its mortality rate, it
is very important that this type of cancer is identified and diagnosed as soon
as possible. This diagnosis is typically made by specialists through the
analysis of computed tomography (CT) images of the patient's chest. The
greatest difficulty in this task is in distinguishing true nodules from other
pulmonary structures in the parenchyma, or from other organs and tissues.
Allied to this, human aspects can interfere with the identification of nodules
by specialists, such as tiredness, haste or other psychological factors. In
this context, algorithms and computer vision techniques may be able to assist
in the identification and diagnosis of nodules in CT images. Currently, some
machine learning techniques, such as deep learning, have been applied with
relative success in medical image analysis and diagnostic aid tasks. Such
techniques are capable of evaluating various aspects of the image without the
interference of human factors. The main objective of this project is the
development of computational techniques that assist a doctor in the process of
detecting pulmonary nodules on CT images. The study will consist of: (i) the
collection of CT images previously labeled with the presence or absence of
pulmonary nodules by specialists; (ii) the study and application of computer
vision and deep learning techniques in order to automatically detect possible
nodules present in the images; (iii) quantitative analyzes related to the
accuracy of the developed methods. It is expected with this project that an
automatic technique for the identification of pulmonary nodules will be developed
to assist a specialist or an automated classification system in the subsequent
diagnosis of nodules as malignant or benign.
