research aims to analyze the perception of students of the degree course in
Mathematics at the Federal University of Alagoas/Campus de Arapiraca about
female participation in higher education courses in the area of Mathematics.
This is an exploratory qualitative research, developed from the application of
a questionnaire to 37 students of the Mathematics course. The results show that
the greatest difficulties for women to be accepted in Mathematics courses is
the fact that discrimination, sexism and prejudice still exist, as they believe
that this science is too complex to be interpreted and shaped by the female
sex.
