The article aims to analyze the relationship between the concept of integral education proposed by the State in the BNCC-Ensino Médio (2018) and the integral formation of the individual, in the sense of the development of human potential. The research is based on the Marxian ontological scientific method, using the historical-social analysis to understand the concept of integral formation and the conception of integral education beyond the integration between basic formation and preparation for work, as well as to understand the logic and limits of the State when establishing integral education in educational reforms. It seeks to apprehend the essential fundamentals for understanding the role of the State in the education of poor Brazilian youth, as well as approaching integral education from a human perspective, beyond the integration between basic training and preparation for work. The research made it possible to understand the function of education and the role of the State in contemporary society, relevant knowledge for critical personal and professional development, and for the commitment to defend quality public education, necessary for a humanized world.
