Entre a soberba e a ruína: uma análise da personagem Sinhá Carolina em Água funda, de Ruth Guimarães

Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a trajetória da personagem Sinhá Carolina, presente no romance Água funda, da escritora brasileira Ruth Guimarães, investigando como ela se torna vítima de seu lugar de gênero diante da opressão patriarcal. Assim, observa-se como os papéis sociais e sexuais tradicionalmente atribuídos a homens e mulheres são, na verdade, construções ideológicas. O trabalho apresenta caráter qualitativo e bibliográfico, fundamentando-se em teóricas da crítica literária feminista e dos estudos de gênero, como Zolin (2009), Schmidt (2019), Duarte (2019, 2022), Ostner (2017), Scott (2019), Lauretis (2019) e Lerner (2019). Recorre-se ainda às formulações de Miranda (2019, 2021) para a realização da análise. Com esta pesquisa, espera-se contribuir para o estudo da representação da mulher em textos literários, bem como para a difusão da obra de Ruth Guimarães, ainda pouco estudada no panorama literário brasileiro.

This work aims to analyze the trajectory of the character Sinhá Carolina, present in the novel Água funda, by the Brazilian writer Ruth Guimarães, investigating how she becomes a victim of her gender position in the face of patriarchal oppression. Thus, it can be observed how the social and sexual roles traditionally assigned to men and women are, in fact, ideological constructs. The work presents a qualitative and bibliographic character, based on theorists of feminist literary criticism and gender studies, such as Zolin (2009), Schmidt (2019), Duarte (2019, 2022), Ostner (2017), Scott (2019), Lauretis (2019) and Lerner (2019). It also draws on the formulations of Miranda (2019, 2021) for the analysis. This research aims to contribute to the study of the representation of women in literary texts, as well as to the dissemination of the work of Ruth Guimarães, which is still little studied in the Brazilian literary landscape.
