<larissa.felix@arapiraca.ufal.br>
The present study aimed to develop a
survey of the literary genres and themes addressed in the classrooms of
selected Early Childhood Education Centers (CEIs) in the municipality of
Arapiraca, Alagoas, Brazil, seeking to analyze how children's books represent
gender issues and to reflect on how these narratives may influence the identity
formation of children, who are in the process of development and social
integration. It is believed that children's literature, even when approached
through playful activities and apparently free from gender markers, may subtly
or explicitly convey stereotypes that, in turn, can naturalize social roles in
which gender inequality predominates, roles that have been constructed and
reinforced throughout human history. The study adopts a qualitative approach of
a documentary and bibliographic nature, based on the analysis of children's
literary works available in the libraries of the Early Childhood Education
Centers in the municipality of Arapiraca, Alagoas, Brazil. Thus, the study
focuses on literary materials, seeking to highlight the symbols, meanings, and
values conveyed through the texts and illustrations found in these works,
drawing on the studies of Vygotsky (1896–1934), Coelho (2000), Ariès (1981),
and Regina Zilberman (1991). Furthermore, the research will indicate some
literary works that may contribute to the organization of early childhood
teachers' pedagogical practices through an approach that strengthens the gender
perspective, associated with the appreciation of people's potential,
recognizing them and thereby promoting a more inclusive and emancipatory
education.
